-"*wretch* I can't stop! *wrech* See?? *wretch*"
-"This pregnancy thing is for the birds!"
-"It's not fair to puke while you're brushing your teeth because you have to start over! "
-"Do you think I would wreck the car if I'm too busy puking to drive?"
-*coming out of an impromptu shower with the most pitiful look on her face* "Vomit splashed back on me"
-"This nausea is ridiculously constant, can't I even just feel better for a minute??"
-"Pause the movie, I have to pee...and maybe vomit"
My poor wife is SO sick. She was barely vertical all day and already called in for tomorrow. I can't imagine how she's going to survive another 6 weeks of this. I wish there was something I could do for her but nothing seems to work. We've tried, saltines, S.ea Ban.ds, ginger ale, crystalized ginger, popsicles, eating every 2 hours, eating bland things, eating sour things, eating dairy, eating during the night, eating before even sitting up in the morning, nothing makes a difference. She was so pitiful and sad today she cried as she wretched into her constant companion, the "puke bucket" for about the bazillionth time. OK blogland, any suggestions? And don't say "meditate because it's all a state of mind" or "if you had a better attitude it wouldn't be so bad". I won't repeat the response those little bits of wisdom got from my miserable, green gilled wife.

I don't have any words of wisdom for you, sorry. I wasn't nearly as sick as your wife and I couldn't find anything that helped me consistently either. The one thing I can offer is that it is OKAY to talk about feeling horrible. Sometimes when we try so hard to get pregnant we feel horribly guilty to admit that it isn't all flowers and roses and for most of us, it isn't. I even bought a book called "Pregnancy Sucks" because I needed to feel like I wasn't alone. And it does get better. It takes a while and it SUCKS going through it but I promise...there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Or the toilet as the case may be... Hang in there.
There is nothing wrong with complaining. Pregnancy can be damn hard--especially a twin one. I got lucky in the m/s department. But it sounds like you have tried everything. now she just has to hang in there as this too shall pass. I did gag brushing my teeth, it sucks. I'm sorry.
Here are precription mess out there for severe nausea. Look into it!
There is a medication called Zo.Fran (sp) that saved the life of my friend in early pg. She was like your poor wife and could not to anything but puke and feel miserable.
The quotes are really funny but I feel so sorry for her. Man, the constant puking sounds AWFUL!!!
And yeah, I am pretty sure meditation and puking are counterproductive.
ohhhhhhhhh no poor thing, I read in a pregnancy book that things for motion sickness sometimes can help, I think theres some sort of bracelet that can be worn that might help? Hope she feels better soon
i laughed outloud about the shower one.. thats cute. lol. i read that ginger helps.. make some ginger tea with slices of ginger in water and some lemon in the morning.
Soft pretzels worked for my partner. She ate 3-4 every day =)

I had this for all 3 of my pregnancies. I lost over 12 pounds in 6 wks for all 3, was hospitalized for 2. I was send home with daily IM shots that made me feel normal again. Miracle drug.
She needs to call the Dr. if she can't keep anything down for 3 meals. She can risk getting dehydrated. Meds are the only thing that works for that.
Good Luck,
Jes
poor thing! When my old roommate was pregnant with twins, we gave her a tablespoon of ensure every 30minutes. It's not much but she was usually able to keep it down.
Oh, I've been there. Zo.fran ended up being the only thing that helped me, but there are other things to try first. Over the counter Uni.som (drug name d.oxylamine) combined with an extra dose of B6. This is the first line of treatment offered in most countries, except the US. The combo was available as a perscription here until the early 80's under the name B.endectin, and is now available in Canada as D.icletin. As you would expect, it will have the side effect of drowsiness, but IMHO that's better than puking!
If your OB gives you a perscription for Z.ofran call your insurance about it first, most will not cover it. If that ends up being the case, call around to different pharmicies to find the best price. They can vary widely. For example, my CVS wanted over $1,000 for a 30 day supply and the local co-op pharmacy only charged me $60
Good luck!
My wife went on zofran around 11 weeks because of constant nausea and then a severe puking episode. Her "morning sickness" lasted into the 25th week and without zofran...I don't even want to think about it!
Ha, she and I were commenting at the same time.
i echo the pp'ers about zofran (or other prescription meds). i was puking dozens of times per day (i recommend grocery store bags in the car for puking-while-driving!). i was so hesitant to take anything while pregnant, but eventually caved. a really low dose of meds was all it took to keep the puking at bay long enough to enjoy a meal and keep some liquids down. and, not to scare ya'll, but like strawberry/nutella, my m/s lasted well into the 6th month. you cant go that long without eating properly.
im sorry to hear it is so bad, it really is miserable for a while -- but it will get better eventually, promise. ((()))
Poor thing. Like being exhausted and hungry all of the time but not being able to eat isn't bad enough.
Talk to your doctor. They can get her something that will help her.
I don't know if she is, but tell her to try and take her prenates at night before she goes to bed.
Just something to try.
Good luck.
SOmetimes fresh, cool air helped as well as a frozen/slushie power aide or gator aide. Hope she feels betetr soon!
As others have said, I would be sure to call and let your doctor know so she can be monitored for dehydration. My sister was sick like this for her second pregnancy and had to be rehydrated in the ER twice. Unfairly, dehydration can make you even more sick to your stomach.
Poor thing. Tell her how sorry I am for her and that I hope it gets better soon. I was lucky and escaped the puking, just a constant queasy feeling for the first tri. I say medication. Everyone I know who has had it that bad eventually went on meds and wished they had done it sooner. Sometimes that's all you can do. I think trying out Nutella's advice about the unisome and B^ is a good start though.
Poor thing! More bland foods every 2 hours or less helped me but it looks like you guys have tried that avenue...Congrats, by the way. Vy told me about the twins but this is the first time on the computer in a week so I am just now reading the news myself. I am so happy for you, morning sickness and all!
I'm just a lurker (found your page from Jen and Tiff), but am 13 weeks with twins and just started to feel like a real person again. My RE told me to quit taking my prenatal (but keep taking folic acid) bc the prenatal has so much iron that it really screws up your digestive system. They also recomended Bo.nine motion sickness medication. I took the generic brand and they said I could take it twice a day. It was miraculous. And, Gator.ade. If it doesn't help, go to your doctor and medicate it to death. Good luck! The end of m/s will come...but never as soon as you want it too. But now that it's gone, I sit here and look for signs that I'm still preggers; it was KIND OF nice to have that constant reminder, "I feel like shit, that means babies are well!"
I had horrible
morning sickness too and would hae died without zofran. There are pills that dissolve on your tongue because I was even throwing up standard pill form. Also anything sour... I ate a ton of lemon starbursts and sour jolly ranchers. So sorry!
hey this is the first time I have read your blog in forever! well congrats on the twins you guys have been through a lot and deserve it. Well as far as the nausea goes I feel her pain, I was ALWAYS puking for the first 4 months. My doctor put me on some prenatal vitamins I think they where called prima-one? that helped but I still threw up a lot. Good luck and congrats again!
One word... Zofran. Don't be afraid to ask for it. When I was pregnant with my son I couldn't keep ANYTHING down and it lasted the entire pregnancy. We tried other methods first, including saltines, sour things, ginger, unisom/B6, and reglan and the only thing that worked was Zofran. Zofran became my best friend and while it didn't end the sickness it made it more manageable. Your wife has my sympathies. I hope she can find some relief somehow. Congratulations on your pregnancy by the way!
Poor, poor girl! That's miserable! Others have said it, but look into Zo.fran. My OB also suggested Un.isom and B6. For some reason this combo really helps some women I hope you can find a solution soon!
I'm so sorry she's having such a hard time with the m/s. I recommend B vitamins, B6 in particular, as others have said. Hard candies also helped me, I had one in my mouth constantly for a few weeks there. If she can't keep water down, gatorade and ginger ale worked for me. I hope its over soon!
sounds like hyperemesis to me. zofran didn't work for me either, so glad they swicthed her.
So this will be really un-pc...and some might think I am crazy, but I had a friend with severe morning sickness and her OB recommended small amts of marijuana... Didn't recommend taking crazy bong hits all day but just a tad once in a while to be able to keep down food and liquids... It saved her when nothing else worked. Just a suggestion from a lurker. Congrats on your triplets.
