9 Weeks

Yesterday we got to see the babies again. This week they are about the size of olives. They looked like little marshmallow men with tiny arms and legs. We even saw one flinch as the wand came his way. It was amazing! Our doc confirmed that we do have 3 sacs and 3 placentas. He even took the time to zoom in and show us where the each of the umbilical cords attached to a baby then followed it all the way to where it attached to separate placenta. It was so neat to see the tiny pulsating cords. There was a lot of "Oooh" and "Ahhh" and "Wow!" uttered in our exam room yesterday. :)

I know I am truly starting to accept and embrace the idea of triplets now. Last week when we had an appointment to see them, I was pretty nervous. I just kept thinking "Oh no, what if they're not all still there, what will we do?" Then when they all checked out fine I thought "Holy crap, they're all still there. What are we going to do??" Yesterday I was REALLY nervous about going in. Again I was thinking "What if we lost one?" but when they were all there and the doc proclaimed that there were three strong heartbeats I was SO relieved. I had perma-grin all day. These are my babies. :)

Congratulations again! This is just amazing news. I hope Trina is feeling better.
I have a question: I thought that when embryos have distinct placentas, that means they came from individual blasts-- but you implanted just two, didn't you? Is it possible that they implanted three, or am I missing something and one split? I think it's fantastic, whatever the case, but inquiring nerds want to know ;)

Whew, relived and terrified at the same time, I bet! Hope Trina is feeling better.

We did transfer 2 blasts. One of ours split so we have a set of identicals and a fraternal third. Apparently this happens in approximately 1% of IVF patients.
I've seen the numbers vary slightly, but basically if a blast splits anytime between days 1 and 8 the identical twins will have 2 sacs and probably 2 placentas. If they split between days 8-13 they'll have one sac and maybe one placenta. If they split after day 13, you get conjoined twins.

That's awesome! Three strong heartbeats - amazing!

How is Trina feeling? Has the sickness subsided? When do we get to see a belly picture?

P.S. I have been checking your blog everyday, waiting for an update! So this makes me very happy! :)

P.P.S - word verify is 'forths'. Are you sure there are only 3 in there? lol

So happy for you ! I know that feeling.
I think you feel like that throughout a lot of the pregnancy...fears around every corner.
Love the olive picture. I think you should print and frame it :)

I am so glad things are going well, and we will continue keeping you all in our thoughts - sending lots of good karms vibes into the universe for you!

I remember we started with twins, and lost one at 8.5 weeks. It was so sad, but we realized everything happens for a reason. To see you make it past 9 weeks, with all three looking beautiful and healthy, is such a relief! Again, I think everything happens for a reason - and if there were two loving parents who could offer 3 babies tremendous love, and capable of raising them in a joyful house, it's SO YOU GUYS!!!! So see, everything for a reason. Im thinking you gals were destined for 3 all along. hehe :)

much love to you both. xx

Isn't it amazing how a number can scare you in 2 ways? This parental protective thing is kicking in so much earlier than I expected--- and it sounds like you have it in triplicate!!

So glad that everything's going well and that each of your triplets has her/his own space! Hope the sickness is subsiding (or will soon)...

:) Great news mama.

Wow! That is great that your identicals are in separate placentas. That is so rare with IVF so you definitely hit the jackpot there since that decreases many risks. CONGRATS! We are on the same journey as you and also one of our embies split, except our identicals share the same placenta but have separate amniotic sacs. We are 11.5 weeks preggers!

Wow. Congratulations once again! I know you said that the splitting of a blast occurs only 1% of the time, but it seems like we hear about it more often than that. Maybe its in the water! haha. Hope that Trina is feeling much better soon.
